Decided on a relatively safe and fun resolution
So for the past year, I have been pretty addicted to a game on my iPad (Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes by EA) and my normal routine is to flip open the laptop at the end of the day and play for a bit. You know what I mean by ‘play’ is more do the daily grind goals and literally let my mind melt to the back of the sofa. After a long day of writing code and just mentally pushing to the my limits, it is nice to just play some dumb 30min TV show and clear the brain. My wife thinks that I am crazy and how in the world I am still ‘playing’ that game after all this time baffles her. The truth is that I don’t get much excitement out of it but I do get a bit of mind-clearing.
Today, I noticed that I had some updates for IOS so I felts it was a fine time to upgrade. When I opened the AppStore, I noticed a cool little application called Duolingo. The application is a Free2Play secondary language application for English speakers. I decided that is would be worth playing around and had relatively high reviews. The interactive, gamification of learning a new language really impressed me. If Mrs. Hernandez had taught Spanish like this back in high school, I might have actually retained some of it. I plan to see if I can stick to playing, err… learning this one and see where it goes. Hey, if you decided to join me in learning Spanish this year, then shoot me a note on twitter and we can make our own club of cool geeks learning Spanish.
